In Huntington Beach, shops are busiest on Monday mornings and before holiday weekends, so a mid-week appointment gets a car seen faster. Labor rates across California vary by neighborhood and by shop type, from small independents to dealership service bays, and mobile mechanics now cover many routine jobs in the driveway. Before authorizing a repair, ask for the estimate in writing, whether the shop warranties parts and labor (12 months / 12,000 miles is common, some offer more), and whether it can provide a loaner or a shuttle. Check the listing for hours, the makes the shop works on and its Google rating, then call ahead, since walk-in capacity is limited at smaller shops.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. The most common schedule is 8 am–5:30 pm. It is closed on Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (714) 841-4545. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, jandsgears.com.

Customers rate it 4.6 out of 5 on Google across 85 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded auto repair shops in Huntington Beach.

Huntington Beach is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Huntington Beach is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

J & S Gear Co came well recommended from another local shop for regearing my Ram 2500. I spoke to Gary over the span of a week or two to iron out the gear ratio I wanted and what I needed to do. He was very informative and patient throughout the process. The shop has been more than accommodating for me; and provides high quality work. Will recommend them and go back for any future work I need.

This shop is amazing. Gary and John provide the very best customer service and work on classic car / truck differentials. My son had his front & rear axles re-geared on his 1987 4Runner and today they finished repairing my front Dana 30 differential on my perfect restored 1970 Bronco..... Both jobs were done quickly...Perfect..... and at a great price.... Can't say enough good words about these guys.... I owned a restoration shop for thirty five years....and know quality work when I see it.... Mike Clinger

Highly recommend for re gearing. These guys saved my 4Runner after another shop I won’t mention installed 3 different sets of gears that all burned up before even breaking them in. (The other shop was trying to blame me and broke it in themselves the 3rd time with same results). After two months of hell I brought my truck here and had no issues after the re gear, everything has worked perfectly since.. This place has a clean classic car shop vibe. I was a bit reluctant from some of the reviews of people whining about the service interactions but don’t be mistaken. You get in, you pay a good price for quality work simple as that. These guys are pros. Thanks boys.

Awesome shop!!! Had both my pinion seals replaced in my Ram 2500 6.7L. They did it in one day for a great price. I previously called another shop and they quoted me a thousand, J&S did it for less than half. Great old school shop!

Fantastic. I'm a first time customer. Long time tradesman and car enthusiastic. Speaking with them over phone a few times helped me get this project going. I was unable to press-in new races into carrier and new bearings on pinion shaft. I felt comfortable talking with owner about project. He was very helpful and understanding. As a car mechanic and builder, I feel 100% confident with J&S. Thank you again.
